Saluting the women behind the guardians of the nation

BRPL donates shawls to war widows, in a function at the Parliament House

There is no sacrifice greater than that for the country. We are enjoying our freedom today, thanks to the sacrifices of brave soldiers, who have laid down their lives, defending this very freedom. A function “Shahidi Samman Samaroh” was organised at the Parliament House today to honour the war widows, the equally brave wives of men, and whose sacrifices are no less than of their soldier husbands.  

Saluting the sacrifices made by these women, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) gifted shawls to about 150 war widows whose husbands laid down their lives for the country, during the wars, including those of 1965, 1971 and Kargil.

Mr Jai Prakash Agarwal, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) was the Chief Guest at the emotionally charged function. Other prominent personalities present on the occasion included Shri Parvez Hashmi, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Ms Nafisa Ali and Maj (Dr) T C Rao, an ex-serviceman and Convener of the function.

According to a BRPL Spokesperson “This gesture, albeit symbolic, is the company’s way of showing its gratitude to these brave women, who stood like a pillar of strength to their husbands. These brave wives, like their soldier husbands, too placed the interest of the nation, above theirs”.

“This gesture is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility program, which has a deep rooted social ethos and reaches out to the society at large. It believes the community is an integral part of the business environment and the interest of one cannot be mutually exclusive from that of the other”, added the spokesperson
