Maharaj Singh – caught stealing power for the second time
Remanded to Judicial Custody for 14 days
In a significant judgment – the Special Court of Electricity has remanded Maharaj Singh, a resident of Aradhak Nagar, Seemapuri and a habitual power thief to 14 days of judicial custody.

Meanwhile, even when the Special Court of Electricity is yet to give its verdict in the case, on 11 September, 2007, Maharaj Singh was caught stealing electricity by a BSES Enforcement Team – for the second time in about a year.
In an inspection carried out at his residence, Maharaj Singh was caught stealing 1.86 KW of electricity by directly hooking from the nearby BSES LV Mains. A penalty of Rs 19,221 was slapped on him. When the accused failed to deposit the same within a stipulated time frame, BSES lodged a FIR (No 571/2007) at the Seemapuri Police Station. Subsequently the accused was arrested and produced before the Special Court.
According to a BSES official, “So far BSES discoms have filed over 6500 case in the three Special Courts in their area and have sent over 215 power thieves to jail – spending a cumulative of over 2400 mandays in jail”
