Two ‘Big Fish’ including a land lord and a steel tube manufacturer sent to Tihar…for Stealing power

  • Charanjeet Singh and Bobby, land lord of the premises and owner of the mid sized Antenna Drawing unit were booked for stealing 54.4 KW of electricity in 19 May 2007
  • The duo were penalised Rs48.5 lakh ac per the provisions of the Indian Electricity Act, 2003
  • Pashupati, owner steel tube manufacturing unit was caught stealing 10 KW of electricity
  • The accused was subsequently penalised Rs 5.95 lakh
  • In both the cases, when the accused failed to deposit the penalties within the stipulated dates, FIR’s were lodged, post which they were arrested and produced before the Special Court

 

In two separate cases, the Patparganj based Special Court of Electricity remanded two ‘Big Fish’ to Judicial Custody for stealing power. While Charanjeet Singh, land lord of the factory housing the mid sized Antenna Wire Drawing factory had earlier been booked for stealing 54.4 KW of electricity, Pashupati, a manufacturer of Steel Tubes had been caught stealing 10 KW of electricity.

 

Case of Charanjeet Singh (land lord of the premises) – who was earlier caught stealing 54.4 KW of electricity at a unit in Massco Estate, Raj Market, Old Seemapuri

 

Acting on a tip off, a BSES Enforcement Team, on 19 May 07, unearthed 54.4 KW of power theft taking place at a mid sized unit fabricating Antenna Wire Drawings in Massco Estate, Raj Market, Raj Market, Old Seemapuri in East Delhi.

 

Though a three phase electricity meter was found at the premises, it was found tampered and by passed. Electricity was found to be directly hooked from a nearby BSES line. Subsequently, according to the guidelines of the Indian Electricity 2003, a power theft bill of Rs 48.5 lakh was raised on Bobby, the owner of the Antenna Wire Drawing unit and Charanjeet Singh, land lord of the premises, where the unit was housed. Later when the accused failed to deposit the same within the stipulated timeframe, BYPL lodged a FIR against the accused, after which Charanjeet Singh was arrested and produced before the Special Court. Meanwhile Bobby, the owner of the unit is absconding.

 

Case of Pushupati, a Steel Tube manufacturer – who was earlier caught stealing 10 KW of electricity at his premises at 8/78 Near Nala, Ram Gali, Vishwas Nagar, Shahdara

             

During an inspection on 20 June 2006, a BSES Enforcement Team, accompanied by CISF and Delhi Police caught Pushupati, a mid sized manufacturer of Steel Tubes, stealing around 10 KW of electricity. In this case also, though the meter was found at the premises, it was found bypassed. The electricity was found to be stolen by directly hooking from the nearby BSES LV mains. Subsequently, according to the legal provisions, a penalty of Rs 5.95 lakh was imposed on the accused. In this case too, when the accused failed to deposit the same within the stipulated timeframe, a FIR was lodged by BYPL against the accused, post which he was arrested and produced before the Special Court.
